A home of care, community & hope

Glory Village is a registered non-profit welfare organisation in Sri Lanka, dedicated to caring for lonely elderly individuals, widows, and orphaned youth. We offer a safe, dignified, and nurturing home where vulnerable members of society can live, heal, and rebuild — with care, community, and purpose.

Our story

Glory Village began with a simple conviction: that no one — not an elder, a widow, or a child — should face life’s hardest moments alone. Officially registered in 2003 as a Voluntary Social Services Organisation, it was founded to create a village where elders could receive personal attention and care irrespective of religion or ethnic background, looked after with kindness and love.

Over the years, what started as a small home for a handful of elderly residents has grown into a community woven together by care. In 2016, the Ministry of Social Empowerment and Welfare formally endorsed our work, recommending land on lease for income-generating projects that benefit elders, orphans, and widows alike.

Today, we walk alongside lonely elders, widows rebuilding after loss, and orphaned youth dreaming of brighter futures. We are not an institution. We are a home — warm, dignified, and alive with purpose — sustained by the generosity of donors, volunteers, and partners who believe that everyone deserves to belong.

Our vision & mission

Vision. A Sri Lanka where every elder, widow, and young person finds a place of belonging — where vulnerability is met with dignity, and where community is the answer to loneliness.

Mission. To provide a safe, dignified, and nurturing home for those without adequate family or financial support; to care for elders with kindness until their last breath; to guide widows and youth toward independence through emotional, educational, and livelihood support; and to build a community where every person can heal, grow, and contribute.

“To create a village for the elders who seek personal attention and care… and to look after them with kindness and love, without any barriers, until their last breath, with the support of the youth.”
— from the Constitution of Glory Village

What we stand for, in our own words

Drawn from our founding constitution, these are the objects that have guided every decision since the beginning.

The Founder

One man’s conviction became a community

In 2003, Mr. Mano Frederick De Almeida carried a simple but radical conviction: that no elder — irrespective of religion or ethnic background — should face the hardest chapters of life alone. He registered Glory Village under the Voluntary Social Services Act, imagining a village where elders would be looked after with kindness and love, sustained by the hands and hearts of youth.

What began as a small home for a handful of elderly residents grew, year by year, into a community woven together by care. Widows rebuilding after loss, orphaned youth dreaming of brighter futures, and elders finding dignity in their later years — all found a place at Glory Village.

Today, his vision remains the heartbeat of everything we do. Glory Village is not an institution. It is a home — warm, dignified, and alive with purpose.
